@buccaneers we'll be cheering for you this weekend! After the big game is over, we hope we can count on you to cheer for us. Currently, the disability community has been widely ignored in Florida's COVID-19 vaccine rollout. While many of our residents are looking forward to the Super Bowl this weekend, if they were to contract the virus, this could be the last time they get to watch the Bucs win. With multiple underlying health conditions, receiving the COVID vaccine is of utmost importance to keep them safe. As most families will be watching the game together this weekend, our residents have not been able to spend time with their families in over a year - no holidays, no birthdays, no special celebrations or hugs on a bad day. We're asking you, the big guys, to help us, the little guys, voice the importance of getting the vaccine to those with disabilities. It is our hope that we can use the power of teamwork to get the message out to Florida's officials - help us get vaccinated! From your fans at The Haven, thank you SO much - GO BUCS!

It's always a great day for a spa day! Residential staff treated our residents to a relaxing spa day to help alleviate some of the stresses caused by the pandemic. In order to keep everyone safe, monthly outings for manis and pedis along with other community excursions have been postponed. People with developmental disabilities that live in group homes have not been given any timeline or guidance on when the COVID-19 vaccine will be available. Adults with developmental disabilities are at risk for severe complications from COVID-19 because most have underlying health conditions. With the help of their families, Haven residents decided to do something about it and make their voices heard! They wrote postcards to key decision makers to let them know why people with developmental disabilities should be prioritized in having access to the COVID-19 vaccine. We are proud of them! @flgovrondesantis @flsenrickscott @repvern we could use your help prioritizing the special needs communities here in Florida.

It's a great day to make some "black gold"! We are excited to kick-off our on-site composting project in partnership with @sunshinecommunitycompost. Haven Academy and ADT clients helped get all of the barrels set up and ready-to-go earlier today. Scraps from client lunches and from our Haven kitchen will be used to continually feed the compost piles. Each program on campus will take turns maintaining the compost bins by turning and checking on them regularly.

Once finished, the compost will be used by our landscaping crew directly on campus. We are also looking forward to using the compost in the future Preschool and Academy gardens.
