Judy’s Oasis Aquatic Therapy Center
Judy’s Oasis Aquatic Therapy Center was born out of a philosophy that those with disabilities have as much potential and capabilities as anyone else and should have access to opportunities that support their abilities. The development of the center came from community demand; for those who have disabilities to have access to an aquatic and therapeutic center focused on their needs and inclusive with our community. Judy’s Oasis, a 1,248-square-foot commercial pool, will cost $300,000 and will include a zero-depth entry with a ramp entrance, restroom facilities, a screened enclosure and a brick paver deck. The new aquatic center is slated for completion this summer with funding made possible by The Fry Family Foundation.
Haven Industries’ Frank Stern Employment Training Center
In response to community demand for Adult Day Training programs for adults with disabilities, The Haven opened the doors to The Frank Stern Employment Training Center in 2017. The 7,500 square foot center has been designed to support adult participants of the Haven Industries program to develop confidence and a sense of independence for each participant through practical experience in a variety of different vocations.
The Frank Stern Employment Training Center will provide multi-purpose classrooms with enhanced technology, fitness center, cafeteria and a state-of-the-art warehouse. In addition to providing a setting for informational and educational programs, the classrooms will be an ideal place for training the employees of tomorrow. Haven Industries is a unique, multi-module employment program for adults with disabilities in the Sarasota and Manatee counties. Individuals enrolled in Haven Industries learn job skills and earn a paycheck for the work they accomplish in one of our many on-campus employment programs. The Frank Stern Employment Training Center is part of The Haven’s master plan for developing its 32-acre property in to a fully functional campus devoted to realizing the highest potential possible in each of the individuals the campus serves.
In Florida, about 20% of the population is comprised of people with disabilities. Of those individuals who are of working age, (between the ages of 21 – 64) the unemployment rate averages over 60%. At Haven Industries, 89% of the adults with disabilities are employed in jobs they enjoy and take pride in doing. Haven Industries has recently added 5 new companies and 9 new contracts for clients to learn work skills and earn a paycheck (up to 23 companies and 71 contracts). With the new training center, more will be added soon.
